OYSTERS, OYSTERS, and more OYSTERS!

Urbana Now why would someone who doesn't even like oysters go to an OYSTER FESTIVAL? To RIDE of course. Even though I have been told of the benefits of eating oysters, "natures own Viagra", they are not in my favorite food group.

UrbanaSo when Harry invited my lady and I to join a group going to the Urbana Oyster Festival, We put aside our culinary dislikes and joined the group. In my other life, (the 9:00 to 5:00 one) I have the good fortune of traveling around Rockingham and Augusta counties. Get to meet a lot of nice folks and of course some of them are Bikers.

Harry is an electrician at one of the plants that I service. We had never ridden together and this was an opportunity to ride with some new friends. Five o'clock in the morning Carol (in her fuzzy pink bathrobe) and I are sitting on the front porch. Trying to decide if this November morning was going to be a good day to ride. After discussing the weather with our paperboy, who by the way was a little surprised by our presence, we decided to hit the road.

Urbana In Waynesboro by 6:30 AM, we met the gang and hit the road. Those "long johns" felt pretty darn good! Traveling east on interstate 64 we made pretty good time. The sun came out and the day got better. The ride was good and traffic was light.

Urbanna is a quaint little waterfront village on the Rappahannock River close to the Chesapeake Bay. The Festival is their big annual event and they go all out. The streets are closed to traffic and filled with venders. They offer oysters about every way they can be eaten. Raw, steamed, fried, baked you name it and they have it. I even got to try some Oysters Rockefeller, not bad. Fortunately for me there are "meat & potatoes" available for us country boys too.

WORLD-CLASS Oyster Eater HARRY
FULLER Live bands, antique cars, a parade, arts & crafts and lots of FOOD! Walk down to the waterfront and marina, it is beautiful. Just a sleepy little town that wakes up once a year and throws one heck of a party. Next November pull out your "long johns" and head east of Richmond on route 33 near Saluda. You will need a map and some eyeglasses to find it, but you will be glad you did!
